As the government's allocation for education funds turns...

...so are the days of my life. Well, it's official. We are in a sucky tax bracket. We make too much money to qualify for significant financial aid, but we don't make enough to actually pay for school. So I'm taking a step back; taking a look at the bigger picture.

I dropped my classes for fall, and will spend this time applying for various grants and scholarships. I'll register for spring as soon as I'm able to. I will not apply for a student loan, not this time around.

I'm sorry you are going thru that. It sucks when you are looking at the years of school ahead and having to wait yet longer. There is life outside of school, tho, as you know. I figured that out real quick when I got pregnant at BYU. :) Not in your life plan, but you adjust.

Research those grants and scholarships - I'm SURE you can find some. Have you looked at fastweb.com? It can tell you about all sorts of scholarships and stuff. The downsides: You end up getting quite a lot of junk-ish email from them, and I don't know anyone who actually got any money from anything he/she found on the site. Except that I also rarely talk to people about how they get/got money for college, so maybe I do know someone. There are also books on grants and scholarships (in case you didn't already know that).

I used to work for a university and there are ways around what you are talking about. Where you planning on attending full-time or part-time? If it's full-time I am under the impression you may still be able to qualify for Stafford Loans, but the PELL Grant money would be subject to income qualifications but not the Stafford Loans.
