Aahh...first day of school!

My daughter started first grade this morning. A full day of school! School lunch!! She's getting so big now...

She went to bed early last night, and woke up with no alarm clock well before she needed to. I remember the excitement of the first day of school too. But she seems uber-excited!

Last year, as the first time I had a child in school, I signed up for everything I could. Room mother, Thursday classroom helper, Thursday home reading book switcher-outer, PTA, and to bring items for several parties. This was a mistake, I learned pretty quickly.

This time around I signed up for Wed. home reading, and as a "cutter". No, this does not involve superficial flesh wounds on my forearms. I just have to help the teacher cut things out for class. No biggie. This year will be much easier.

So now my days are free again--well as free as they can be with a toddler in tow.

I took mine to school today too.. First dropped off my son at middle school (8th) ~ had a good laugh threatening to yell I love you at him out the window as he was walking toward the group of kids. Then I took my daughter to her third grade class. Her teacher had the desks set up in groups of four facing each other, and each kid had their own water bottle (the cool blue and pink and red ones) with their name written on it. Very cool teacher so far. I'm hoping for the best.

Our babies are growing up!

By the way, not one word from my friend since my last e-mail to her. I commented on this after yours.

My daughter starts 2nd grade and my son starts kindergarten in a couple of weeks. It's been a long noisy summer. I never realized how crazy kids get during the summer. It'll be nice for them get back to a daily routine. Kids are fun.

The first day of school always made me sad. It starts with the back-to-school ads on television - you know the summer is over and that the prison called SCHOOL awaits.

I wonder if there are any good sales left? I need some new duds.

So random today that I can't stand myself...

I always looked forward to school starting again. If I had kids I would ESPECIALLY look forward to it now. Yay for being on half duty during the day! Bon-bons and pina coladas, whenever you can arrange a play-date at someone else's house for the toddler!
