Protect Your Junk

Relationships are hard work. I was talking with a girl today and she told me that she doesn't really let her relationships go much longer than 4 months, because that's when the excitement wears off and the dirty work starts. On the one hand, that's sort of sad for her. But on the other hand, while sad, I can totally relate to her.

A while back I was pondering the not-so-enigmatic-but-still-tough-to-figure-out Me. "Why do I react the way I do?" I asked myself. "From whence does my impatience come?"

I know I'll get ridiculed by some people who read this blog for saying this, but so be it. I hold some kind of belief (though it's not quite strong enough to be an actual belief) in the cycles of the solar system and stars, and the effect they have on our lives. I relate so well to the Sagittarian. If I had never heard anything about the Zodiac before, and then read through a fair description of each sign, I would immediately recognize that I myself am a Sagittarius.

Here is an amazing description of what it means to be Sagittarius (from http://www.psychicguild.com/horoscopes_zodiac.php?sign=Sagittarius):

Life Pursuit: To live the good life
Vibration: Overly expressive - frequent burnouts
Sagittarian's Secret Desire: To make a difference in the world

Ruled by the benefic planet Jupiter, Sagittarians possess a natural exuberance, sense of adventure and love of life that makes them one of the most optimistic zodiac signs of all. Like their astrological symbol - the Archer - Sagittarians are renowned for aiming their sights towards whatever it is they find alluring - a love partner, dream job, vacation - and making it their own. They believe that anything is possible - and because of this belief system, Sagittarians are adept at seeking out their very own pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

But sometimes trying to tie down these free-spirited individuals is frustrating for those around them. Sagittarians are happiest on the move - exploring new cultures and ideas and many are attracted to occupations related to travel, the media, outdoor work and philosophical pursuits. In love, their catch-cry is "don't fence me in". But once they find a partner who understands their need to retain their own sense of self and identity, Sagittarians can be the most big-hearted, generous and fun-loving companions of all.

Freedom loving, optimistic and honest, Sagittarians are ruled by Jupiter, the planet of abundance and higher learning. The wisdom of Jupiter imbibes Sagittarians with an inherent need to develop their own unique philosophy of life. The Centaur is their astrological symbol, and it gives many insights into the Sagittarian personality. The higher-evolved Sagittarian learns to integrate the two ends of the Centaur (half-human, half-beast) in order for their arrow (another Sagittarian symbol) of higher aspirations to be more on the mark. Although they are intellectually and spiritually advanced, Sagittarians are notorious for their lack of tact. In relationships they demand independence, but when in love, it can't be denied that they are one of the most big-hearted signs of the zodiac.

I can't begin to explain how all this hits home with me. Horoscopes? Don't hold weight with me. Astrocharts? Fun, but that's it. This description, however, couldn't be more dead on of qualities I aspire to and, in some regards, inadequacies I already embody.

Does this explain me? Not entirely, but it's a darn good start. Sometimes I think of myself as a free-spirited horse who willingly and knowingly allows herself to be bridled by restraints. I aspire to have a relationship where this is understood, and I'm allowed to be myself.

That describes me, too. I guess I must be a Sagittarius. Oops, I just read the description of Pisces and that sounds like me too. Oh, and Libra is pretty spot on. Hmm. I'm seeing a trend here.

Now, what exactly is the mechanism by which the moon's position at the time of my birth affects my personality? Oh, yeah. Something.

gcwmk - anacronym: get credulous without much knowledge.

Thanks for taking the time to comment... *sigh*

Do you know what gives me insight into the Sagittarian personality? The Centaur.

Indeed.

paafzh - arabic; noun- sleep fart; see also poof.

Not making fun, La, just pointing out the logical inconsistencies in a common but non-evidence-based worldview.

La said...

Cause you have to do that.

So.. what's with the title of this entry? It doesn't make sense to me.

La said...

It's a project from work. Cracks me up.

DFB said...

That's a FUNNY name for a project. Now I'm going to start a project and call it that!

Oh, and the word benefic implies a will. How can that adjective be ascribed to a f-c-i-g planet? I don't get it. That is a good word, though. I think I'll use that in my new project. Like maybe "Protect Your Benefic Junk," or something.

La - When I think of Sagittarians, I think of a friend of mine who died young. He was a great guy - one of those people who was genuinely friends with everyone. But if I think about it - there are other people I know born in early December who fit this as well.

Yeah - I understand to some extent - I read my horoscope each day - for no real reason. The fact that my twins were gemini was also a big deal - yet I don't believe in astrology at all. Who knows. To some extent - I think it is a mixture of tradition/culture/supersition. It doesn't have to make sense.

I know there are naysayers out there. I know that people who don't believe in astrology tend to scoff and make fun of it. It's an easy target. However, these are usually people that, at one time in their lives, believed that a big man in the sky knew all of our thoughts and answered prayers on a whim. Why is it that Christian beliefs are taken in stride, but something about which we don't have much information, but is based in energies that have been PROVEN, carry no weight?

It may not be the One and True Path to Enlightenment, but is it POSSIBLE that it might be a tool for some to use as a way to understand one's self?

Example. ER rooms have a significantly higher staffing on full moon nights due to the higher number of people coming in. More women have babies on full moons, more violent crimes occur...yet all that is just coincidence? I find it much more convincing to say that whatever "we" are made of, can't be just dust. The time, date, everything about when we were born--we have no idea what goes into our souls.

Now, back to your post. I am also a Sag. Could you tell? LoL
No, Pisceans are not like us, neither are Cancers (I had to date a string of Cancers before I finally figured out THAT little problem. They are way too possessive.) If someone asked me if I believed in Astrology, I would laugh and say 'no'. But I think everything can be a tool into understanding ourselves.

Our psyches are tied together by the Collective Unconscious; there is no 'proof', so why do human beings have the same psychological patterns in terms of dreams, emotional development etc.?

The point is, you don't have to have your head in the clouds to accept some of this stuff. All the Sagg information did was make you aware of how you are. You know your nature; now, you can either fight it, like I did (and two failed marriages LATER)...OR you can accept it and live your life according to your true self rather than what you think you OUGHT to be like.

My .02

Hope to see you soon, sweets!

Again, I wasn't making fun. Only pointing out the inconsistencies.

JH said: "However, these are usually people that, at one time in their lives, believed that a big man in the sky knew all of our thoughts and answered prayers on a whim."

They were wrong about that, too. Is this a point?

JH said: "Why is it that Christian beliefs are taken in stride,..."

They're not. They're equally unsupported by any evidence.

JH said: "...but something about which we don't have much information, but is based in energies that have been PROVEN, carry no weight?"

Huh? We don't have much information? Astrology has been tested and tested over and over again for centuries (millenia). Yes, by actual believers doing rigorous science. We have TONS of evidence regarding the practice of astrology. And it all points to a negative conclusion. I have no idea what you mean by energies that have been proven, so I'll leave that alone.

JH said: "It may not be the One and True Path to Enlightenment, but is it POSSIBLE that it might be a tool for some to use as a way to understand one's self?"

Yes, it is possible, even probable that it is a tool to understand oneself. I just think its a silly one; one that leads you to a false understanding of yourself and, more sinister, a false understanding of me.

JH said: "Example. ER rooms have a significantly higher staffing on full moon nights due to the higher number of people coming in."

This urban myth has been busted over and over again.

JH said: "More women have babies on full moons, more violent crimes occur..."

These are also false. Demonstrably so.

JH said: "...I find it much more convincing to say that whatever 'we' are made of, can't be just dust. The time, date, everything about when we were born"

What do you find so convincing about it? Have you ever researched the efficacy of astrology? Can you point some of us interested skeptics to something convincing?

JH said: "-we have no idea what goes into our souls."

Or even if we have souls. Or even what a soul is.

JH said: "...Our psyches are tied together by the Collective Unconscious; there is no 'proof', so why do human beings have the same psychological patterns in terms of dreams, emotional development etc.?"

Because we're all human and our brains work in similar ways.

JH said: "The point is, you don't have to have your head in the clouds to accept some of this stuff."

I disagree. I think one needs to turn off their reason to accept astrology. But if by "accept some of this stuff" you meant "let some of this stuff inform my search for a deeper understanding of who I am" then I might tentatively agree. See below.

JH said: "All the Sagg information did was make you aware of how you are."

No, it gave her something to think about. That website doesn't have the first clue who La is and neither do you and neither do I; only La does.

JH said: "You know your nature;.."

Yes, or she will, or she won't.

JH said: "..now, you can either fight it, like I did (and two failed marriages LATER)...OR you can accept it and live your life according to your true self rather than what you think you OUGHT to be like."

If this means accept what that website told her, then this is very poor advice indeed. If you had said this outside the context of astrology, then I would agree wholeheartedly.

Julieanne (or La), If this sounded antagonistic, it wasn't meant to.

Not antagonistic, just negative, not to mention tediously precise and sarcastic for something not meant as antagonistic.

My comment was not directed at you personally, DFB, but obviously you took it personally. However, I don't have any scientific, monumental PROOF of that fact, so excuse me if I'm totally off.

I'm going to go stick my head in the clouds now with my psychic and the Easter bunny. Good luck, La.

If you wanna talk further, La, you know how to find me.

La,
I can totally get your "free-spiritedness"! I have had my blog copied and distributed among the many PTA members in my suburbia! Some of of what I have written has been used to malign my character. I refuse to bow to them. If I wasn't a Leo, I might. My star sign suggests that I am a bitch worthy of any opponent. Sometimes I wonder what the hell have I done to deserve this treatment.
We are what we are. Just try to remember no bastard can grind us done unless we allow it!!

And, as everyone knows, Leo's are born fortunate. Charismatic and positive-thinking they attract not only an abundance of friends and opportunities, but manage to survive life's stormy times with style and good humour.

I was engouraged, but then:
...
No matter what level they have attained, all Leos are trendsetters, leaders and adventurers. Their weakness is their pride. This is one sign where the saying "flattery will get you everything" applies, but be warned criticism will slam the relationship door right in your face.

Oh, f--k! And for a minute, I thought I had a chance with the anonymous reader. But then I had that one little criticism.. .. .. I guess the relationship door has been slammed in my face! Do you know what's weird? It's not just Leo.. seriously.. I'm such an as-h-le that it may even be Virgos that slam the relationship door in my face.

Hey LA

I knew I was a LEO as soon as I heard the descriptions. I wouldn't laugh. ;-)

But, to have a true astrological description, you need to take into account Sun, Moon, and Rising signs. I am a Leo, Scorpio, Gemini. The combination describes me to a T.

And naysayers... the ones I know never actually studied astrology. And, interesting fact--astrology and astronomy come from the same root. Same scientists were doing both. LOL

ZING. Cyn
