This year, bar none, has been the worst year for sickness for me in a long time. Cold after cold after cold. I've spent more days sniffling, coughing, sneezing, or just feeling yucky than I have feeling energetic and well. It's starting to bug.
Right now I've got the Really Gross Cough. You know what I'm talking about: the kind where you can actually visualize the phlegm squishing out of your alveoli and through your bronchial tubes and into your esophogus. Yeah, and then on top of that lovely picture you get to taste the phlegm!! Here's the money question though: Spit or swallow? :)
Hopefully if I take it easy over the next couple of days, I'll be able to feel a little better for Christmas.
What are you most excited for this Christmas? I'm excited to see my kids' reactions to gifts.

Doctor Donavan says:
At least two hot showers a day.
Chicken noodle soup, god damn it.
Hot tea, to the point that you're living in the bathroom because you're peeing all the time.
Excited for Christmas? Not yet. It might hit me that morning. Or Christmas Eve when we hit SF for The Gay Men's Choir then cocktails with friends and MAYBE midnight mass. Yeah, a big maybe on the mass thing, but at least I'm open to the possibility instead of my typical "fuck that!"
Get better!
Get well! Can't wait to take advantage of the spiked egg nog!
Hope you feel better soon. I'm most excited for the time off and the same as you: kids' reactions to their big gifts this year. It's gonna be great.
Aw, poor La. And I'm not being sarcastic. That sucks. I'm most excited for it to snow, which it's stubbornly refusing to do. It was 60 today. IT'S NEARLY CHRISTMAS, FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!

I second all those motions by Dr. Donovan.
On top of those suggestions, I add:
* Echinacea / Goldenseal combo capsules. 2 of those capsules 3 times per day.
* Keep yourself very warm at least for sleeping. I'm talking warm enough to raise your body core temperature, like an artificial fever almost. If your body is already doing the fever thing naturally, keep that going. Not for endless hours, of course.
* Sleep, sleep, sleep. 10+ hours per day.
* If the gross cough isn't gone or improving after 7-10 days, see a real doctor (as opposed to us blog doctors).
Sadly, I've had this same illness for a week. It's finally going away.
Hope you feel better and have a great New Year!!! :D
I just received a steroid and anitbiotic shot! Feeling better now...hope you are too!! Miss you
Sorry to hear you're sick. The good news is that if its a cold virus (as opposed to some nasty bacteria) then you'll be immune to this particular virus for the rest of your life. The bad news is that there are 500+ different cold viruses. But seriously, you will get fewer and fewer colds as you get older and get exposed to more viruses. When kids start going to school they bring home all sorts of nasty bugs. When my kids started pre-school I got sicker than a dog as they brought home one virus after another. It gets better.
You might also consider taking up a moderate running or other exercise program. It does wonders for giving you energy and encouraging health and vitality. Just don't do what I'm currently doing. Too much cardio actually depresses the immune system and makes you more susceptible to illness.
Get better soon.
