Just Shootin the Shite

What's the name of that one movie? The one with Audrey Hepburn, where's she's blind and she lives in London (maybe?) and a guy comes into her house to kill her. But then she turns out the lights to the house, because that will make it hard for him to maneuver and she'll have the advantage, but then he opens up the fridge, and uses the fridge light to find her. But then she unplugs the fridge. What's that one called??

I was thinking about that movie today because of my freaky friend Matt who looks scary with blue lights (specifically the hot tub lights) shining on his face. And since he can freak me out fairly easily, I was thinking of that movie because it freaks me out. But I'm not blind. And Audrey saves the day, so it turns out fine for her.

Speaking of turning out fine, I need to think of a Halloween costume. I've never really been into dressing up for Halloween. One year I painted my face in the same markings that my Siberian Husky, Sam, had. Then I put my hair in 2 ponytails, to represent ears. It was pretty cute.

Since then, though, I haven't gone out of my way to dress up. This year I really ought to put forth some effort. I like doing things that involve exotic or complex make-up. I used to do make-up for the plays in high school. I was pretty good, and I really liked the fantasy stuff. My favorite make-up I ever did was for the play A Midsummer Night's Dream. I got to paint all the cool designs on the fairies.

Speaking of make up, that's the best part of fighting, wouldn't you agree?

So to conclude: Scary movies + make up = ramblings on a Sunday evening... :)

There are;

Ferries

Fairies

and Faeries

Lots to choose from...

Hmm... I've never painted a Ferry before. That'd be tedious.

So I guess that leaves Fairies and Faeries. Is there a difference between those two? I'm naive, don't you know...

Fairies are cute and make little girls smile.

Faeries are spiritual, erotic, mysterious, sensual and dreamlike. And make grown men smile. ;-)

"Wait Until Dark" from 1967.

When the film was released, the theatres darkened all their lights "to the legal limit" during the last twelve minutes of the film, each light going out as Audrey Hepburn smashed each light bulb. The one remaining light in the theatres would be switched off as the last light source in the film went out.

Not that you cared to know, but here it is anyway.

I love that movie! It is a classic! You know a movie is very well done when it's still potent almost 40 years later. So whatcha gonna be?

I love that movie, & Audrey Hepburn too. She's so good in that movie. Until I'd seen that movie, it was the most suspenseful one I'd ever seen until that time. I was so scared!

OMG, Montchan! That is TOO GREAT! I have a deep urge to see a showing of that movie in that way now...

I get the creeps just thinking of that movie. When I watch stuff like that I tend to yell at the screen "Kick him in the NUTS!" I always think that will solve my being-stalked-and-potentially-murdered problems... :)

UM.. maybe it was different in the sixties, but.. aren't the lights supposed to be turned off before the movie starts? I mean no offense, but what is the "legal limit" of OFF?!? Who's regulating the off-ness of off? How off are they allowed to be? I'm totally confused (nothing new).

Even though there are always parties and good times at Halloween, each year I find myself rushed to find or create a costume.

The year before I rented a costume from a theatre company: Victorian outfit with kick-ass boots. Last year I was lazy dressing up as spa boy: white cotton robe, hair wrapped in a towell, avacado green face paint :)

This year I'm thinking less is best: white sarong and a white mask - to reflect my wholesome goodness :)

Don't forget a halo, then! I mean, if we're shooting for "true to life" here.

That costume sounds kinda hot actually... I could do that and wear a bitchin white bra with sequins on it! Hmm...

dfb,

next time you go to see a movie, check out how the theater is lit during the show. The little lights along the floor, especially when you have stadium seating, and the little lights with arrows indicating fire exits, and the little lights by the doors. They are all there. It seems to be pitch black, but trust me, it isn't.

We have done a similar thing for the film festival last year, and to "the legal limit" means: turn it all off and dim the fire exits until only the fluorescent paint glows.

It's obvious now that I've spent waaaaayyy too much of my time inside movie theaters.

I'm gonna go rent Wait Until Dark now.

Speaking of interactive theater experiences, I had a big fat dude next to me during the Illusionist that kept burping and releasing the burp fumes out and it provided the illusion that I was sitting next to a partially digested Taco Bell Mucho Grande meal.

Last year I was dragged to a stupid ward Halloween party, where everyone was dressed up stupidly. And I wasn't, so everyone would come up to me and SO cleverly ask me what I was. So I told them I was an undercover cop. And then they went away.

I LOVE that you did the makeup for "A Midsummer Night's Dream"! Although I am NOT a fan of Shakespeare (shut up all you people who now think I'm dumb! I think YOU'RE dumb, AND pretentious!), I have seen some pretty cool productions of that show - cool PURELY because of the design aspects. That is one of the all-time BEST shows to design for. So now I'm all in awe of you.

Halo?

Ack.

I'll pass. But I could accessorize and pick up a white **** ring.

:)

LOL, Sideon. Funny. You could always go for the ****ring AND a tarnished halo!
